The Little Shop of Physics at Colorado State University has received a $50,000 grant from the American Physical Society’s Division of Condensed Matter Physics to expand its hands-on science education and outreach programs.

The funding will support new interactive experiments, educational videos, materials for teachers, and outreach visits to approximately 25 schools across Colorado, South Dakota and beyond. The grant will also help create a dedicated condensed matter physics room at the Little Shop’s annual Open House, where thousands of visitors can explore concepts related to materials science, semiconductors, LEDs and quantum technology.

With the program expecting to reach more than 10,000 people this year, the grant will help Little Shop of Physics continue its mission of making complex scientific ideas accessible, engaging and fun for learners of all ages.

The new experiments are expected to debut at the 2027 Little Shop of Physics Open House on March 7 at CSU’s Lory Student Center.
