Resources and Facilities

Major research facilities in the department include conventional and superconducting magnets, microwave spectrometer for ferromagnetic-resonance studies, ESR spectrometers, vibrating-sample magnetometer, ultrasonic spectrometers, x-ray-diffraction instrumentation, several pulsed and cw lasers, tunable dye lasers along with detection and signal-processing equipment for quantum-electronics research, sputter-induced resonant-ionization spectroscopy, facilities for semiconductor fabrication and analysis, very-high-pressure equipment, and high-speed work-stations. Many facilities are available within other departments, such as electron microscopes, microelectronic fabrication, molecular beam epitaxy, and nuclear magnetic resonance.
