Description The density rod shows how temperature affects the density of a liquid. The hollow cylinder floats in cold water and sinks in hot water.

Also includes 500ml flask for alternate demo

Tips
  • Procedure
    • Fill the beaker with cold tap water.
    • Place the Density Rod into the beaker and observe that it floats. Note the temperature.
    • Add hot water into the beaker (can use Hot Plate Demo 181 shelf 12)
    • Density Rod will sink (this can work with hot tap water as well)

  • To prevent corrosion of the aluminum cylinder, it should be wiped dry after the demonstration.
  • Alternate Buoy Demo: Fill the included flask to about 1 inch above 500ml marking with cold tap water. Drop the cylinder into the flask with X side down. The cylinder will right itself.
