The Department of Physics, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado, seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member with research interests in materials physics.  Exceptional candidates from all areas of materials physics/condensed matter physics are encouraged to apply.  Colorado State University is a land-grant institution with a strong commitment to research that impacts society and addresses global problems, while maintaining an emphasis on scholarly excellence.  The preference is to fill this position at the Assistant Professor level but consideration will also be given to exceptional applicants at higher ranks. The focus is on an experimental hire, but exceptional computational/theoretical applicants may be considered.

The Department of Physics is comprised of 22 faculty members with research programs in condensed matter physics; atomic, molecular, and optical physics; and high-energy and particle astrophysics. The condensed matter program includes experimental groups in magnetics, superconductivity, low temperature physics, nanophysics, and photovoltaics, and theoretical efforts in nanoscale pattern formation, chaos, superconductivity, and nanophysics

This new position is part of a cluster hire in materials science in the College of Natural Sciences.  As part of this effort, the Department of Chemistry is also conducting an independent materials chemistry search; see http://cns.natsci.colostate.edu/employment/Chemistry/. The collaborative nature of this cluster position is such that we are particularly seeking candidates who demonstrate the potential for interdisciplinary research with members of the physics faculty, the Department of Chemistry, and/or other departments in the College of Natural Sciences and the University.
