Sigma Pi Sigma

The requirements for election into Sigma Pi Sigma are as follows:

1)  Must be a member of the Society of Physics Students (the national organization).

2)  Must be at least a junior

3)  Must have completed PH 314, M 340, two other upper-division PH courses of at least three credits each, and at least one additional upper-division technical course (either a PH course or a technical elective) of at least three credits

4)  Overall GPA and technical GPA must each be at least the minimum value specified in the table below.

The technical GPA is based on all courses taken in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics, as well as all courses listed as technical electives by the Department of Physics.

The three different categories correspond to three different levels of participation in the activities listed below:
Category 1) No activities
Category 2) At least one activity
Category 3) Heavy involvement in SPS for at least one semester and at least one other activity

The list of activities is as follows:
1)  Heavy involvement in SPS for at least one semester.
2)  At least one semester of undergraduate research.
3)  At least one semester of work with Brian Jones
4)  At least one semester of participation in the Little Shop of Physics
