Mingzhong Wu
was born in June 1968 in Jiangsu, China. He obtained his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees
in Solid State Electronics in 1991 and 1999, respectively,
from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, one of the
top-ten universities in China. During his Ph.D. program,
he worked on magnetic materials for microwave absorption applications.
After receiving his degree, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the
Functional Materials Research Laboratory at Tongji University, where
he studied the microwave characterization of magnetic and dielectric materials.
From June 2001 to October 2002, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of P
hysics at the University of Connecticut, where his work focused on magnetic
nanoparticles and nanocomposites. In November 2002, he joined in the
Magnetics Laboratory at Colorado State University (CSU) as a Postdoctoral Fellow.
At CSU, his work has mainly focused on linear and nonlinear spin wave dynamics
in magnetic thin film systems. In May 2006, he was promoted to a Research Scientist III.
Then in August 2007, he was promoted to a tenure-track Assistant Professor position.
Dr. Wu is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
He serves as a proposal reviewer for the U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation.
He is a reviewer for the Applied Physics Letters, Journal of Applied Physics,
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, Annual
Conference on Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, International Magnetics Conference,
and Joint MMM/Intermag Conference. He is also an Affiliate Professor of Huazhong
University of Science and Technology and a Chair Professor of North University of China.
Dr. Wu maintains a large number of research interests in
the fields of condensed matter physics and materials science.
His current research interests are in the following areas:
- Nonlinear spin waves, envelope solitons, chaotic dynamics, modulational instability, parametric pumping;
- Magnetization dynamics, ferromagnetic resonance, spin wave instability;
- Nanomagnetism, nanoscale magnetic particles, magnetic nanocomposities, magnetic nanofilms;
- Microwave magnetic materials and devices, microwave absorption materials, millimeter wave devices.
