Young Yeal Song obtained his Ph.D. degree in Physics from Chungbuk National University in Cheongju,
Korea in 1999. He investigated the magnetic and microwave properties of Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG) substituted with rare
earth and transition metal elements. During the course of his Ph. D. he was also involved in research at Component
Technology Development Section, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), for International
Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000).
Young-Yeal joined the Colorado State University Magnetics Laboratory in October of 2000 as a Post-doctoral researcher.
He has set up a pulsed laser deposition (PLD) system to make magnetic thin films and succeeded in the deposition of
low-loss single-crystalline M-type barium ferrite and lithium-zinc ferrite. In 2003, he took a Research Professor
position in the Department of Physics at Chungbuk National University. In March 2007, he joined in the CSU Magnetics
Group again as a Research Scientist III (equivalent to an Associate Professor). His current
research interests have been focused on the deposition of magnetic and electric thin
films and their magnetic and microwave properties.
