The Demo Room is here to aid in the
teaching of physics
to undergraduate and graduate students in the field of physics, as well
as
non-majors taking physics here on campus. It
currently includes well over 200 different demonstrations in multiple
areas. Some
demos only cover
specific topics, but most deal with multiple topics and as such there
are a
multitude of demonstrations possible. The Grant that was provided to us
this past school year (2006-2007) allowed us to hire Gary Metzger as
our Instructional Resource Specialist. The Grant ran out at
the
end of June 2007, and we no longer have funding
for Gary's position. We wish Gary the best in his future
endeavers! During the year Gary has helped us to reorganize the Demo
Room to be as self-serve as possible. We have also been able to
purchase and update many new demos - see our List of New &
Updated Demos below.
Tracey Lipfert will be available in the Demo Room:
Monday through Friday 11AM-1:45PM
Tracey will be maintaining and updating the existing database as well as
keeping the demonstration room organized to facilitate easy self-serve
access to demonstration materials.
The
demo room is self-serve,
which means the
following:
• If you borrow a demo for a
lecture,
please return it to the appropriate shelf when finished.
•
If
you use a demo for more than one day, please sign it out so that we
know where
it is. There is a
notebook on the
door for this purpose.
• If you leave a demo out on
a table, please
leave a note so we know that you are still using it.
•
If something is
broken, please let us know. There
is a notebook on the door for this purpose.
Demos
can be browsed online at your convenience. Demo
Database
This
database is through FileMaker Pro 7 and
is web published for your convenience.
Once
there, the window on the left allows
you to view different layouts, sort, search, etc.)
Demos
are grouped on the shelves
according to topic. The boxes they reside in are
appropriately labeled
and show pictures of the equipment inside. If a demo is on a
shelf then
it should be functioning properly. Please do not put broken
demos back on
the shelves.
Ideas
and suggestions for new and/or
improved demos are welcome. We will happily maintain a list
of them and
try them out as time and funds become available.
Please realize that our funds are limited, but we will do
what we can.
