Professor Bob Wilson has been elected chair of the Institutional Board that oversees the 897-member Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) collaboration with scientists and engineers from 154 institutions in 29 countries. He will also be a member of the Executive Committee, which is responsible for setting scientific and technical objectives and priorities of the DUNE collaboration. Professor Wilson is pictured here at the Sanford Underground Research Facility on the site of the old Homestake gold mine that will host the massive liquid argon detector a mile underground. In the background is the headframe on the Ross shaft, one of the two that provides vertical access down to the 4850 feet level closest to the location for the detector. The US Dept. of Energy recently gave approval to start excavation of the two gigantic caverns for the DUNE collaboration.
